“Truths and Lies by Elena S. Smith is an absolutely enthralling read. Vicki is a university professor and considers herself a lucky lady. She thought her life was over when she got divorced, but now she is happy and enjoys her freedom, independence, and a life free of lies and manipulation. But her best friend, Darlene, is not convinced and decides to make Vicki a profile on a dating site. When Vicki sees the guy she splashed with beer at a Seahawks game a while ago, she decides to give him a chance. Tom is a lonely guy in his late 50s. He has been divorced for almost a decade and stopped taking care of himself. Tom believes he is a decent man who doesn't deserve to be manipulated and deceived. He is afraid of getting hurt again, but after a brief encounter with a woman at a football game, he starts to believe that it is still possible to find a soulmate.
" Wow, 'Truths and Lies' by Elena S. Smith is a game-changer in the world of romance novels, especially for us who've seen a thing or two in life. It's like diving into a rich, layered cake of love, life, and everything in between... If you're in the mood for a book that gets the crazy, beautiful, maddening thing called love and isn't afraid to show the scars and smiles it comes with, 'Truths and Lies' is your next must-read. Trust me, you'll see bits of yourself in Vicki and Tom, and you’ll be rooting for them like they're old friends. Elena S. Smith, you've got yourself a fan!"
“What a great exciting read! It’s like wait, what’s going to happen next? I had a hard time putting it down.” R. Richardson
“…It’s like curling up with a good friend. Grab your beverage and comfy seat and enjoy. The characters will walk off the pages and into your life.”
“I read this book seventeen years ago, and I just reread it, and it has acquired a new meaning for me at the time of such turmoil in the world. Russians and Ukrainians used to be partners in fighting for peace together with Americans in the 1980s, and how totally different their interrelationships have been in the past two years since the Russian invasion in Ukraine in 2022. This book is a bitter sweet longing for the past that can never be relived or repeated. Does is give us hope for a better future? Hope dies last.”
“This is my first Amazon book review, but I have to start somewhere. This book was given to me personally by the author. She is a top Russian language instructor and I have attended her culture and film classes, however, she is now retired and enjoying life. When you meet someone that is very impressive, you naturally want to learn all you can about them, which made me want to buy this book. … This is a bittersweet book, and you should buy this for a long travel or for your bedside to look forward to after along day. There was supposed to be a follow-up book but it is not out yet. This would make a great gift for anyone interested in American or Russian culture and love escapades.”
“I loved this book beginning to end. It not only reveals a wonderful love story (as a guy, this is not my usual thing,) but it gives the reader great insights into what it was like in Russia at the time of glasnost. It is clear that the writer actually experienced much of what the story holds - maybe all??? I have recommended it to my wife and friends.”
